A memory and chuckle from 2008.

Mid-April I took my children (1 and 2 2/12 at the time) out of town to a wedding. It was just the children and myself. We drove to get my mother and headed to the wedding, which was another 3 1/2 hours from my parents place. So, we are trying to find a gas station in the town of the wedding. This town has much, much, much more traffic than I am used to.

My daughter is in the back seat, talking nonsense and babbling. I keep asking her what she is saying, as I am freaking out about the traffic. Finally I say , "Ok, sweetie, whatever you want to say Aidan." Remember, my mother is in the car with us. There is a pause from the backseat. Then, clear as a bell, my darling sweet daughter says, "Well, I want to say sh*%." My mother snorted her coffee out of her nose, laughing. I was torn between wanting to bang my head on the steering wheel, bust up laughing, or scold her. My darling dear mother turns to me and replies, "Well, you said she could say whatever she wanted."

"A roof to keep out the rain. Four walls to keep out the wind. Floors to keep out the cold. Yes, but a home is more than that. It is the laugh of a baby, the song of a mother the strength of a father. Warmth of loving hearts, light from happy eyes, kindness, loyalty, comradeship. Home is first school... for the young ones where they learn what is right, what is good, and what is kind. Where they go for comfort when they are hurt or sick. Where joy is shared and sorrow eased. Where fathers and mothers are respected and loved. Where children are wanted. Where the simplest food is good enough for kings because it is earned. Where money is not so important as loving-kindness. Where even the teakettle sings from happiness. That is home" - Ernestine Schumann-Heink

The folks I work with can be semi-gutterminded most of the time. (No, I haven't corrupted them... Sadly...) The fact one of out coworkers is named Holly, and another lives in Mount Holly... Well that gets some giggles.

Chuck: When I get outta here, I'm going to Mount Holly.
Us: (Stunned silence, then giggling)
Chuck: Not like that!

best memory for 2008 was my weekend vacation in Elizabethtown, KY. my plane was due to leave montreal at 8am so I arrive at the airport at 0530. on the way there the weather turns really bad with a major thunderstorm.. now keep in mind this is my first time ever on a plane so I'm nervous to begin with. I'm sitting at the aiprort and my plane is already an hour late for take off. The plane due to leave the terminal before mine had been struck by lightning on landing and it had a cracked winshield.. yeah that's not what I want to hear right. by now I'm thinking " what the hell am I doing?"

so I get on the plane and see the door being closed, I'm wondering if I can fit out the window before the plane takes off. didn't happen of course and I found out I love flying. not bad for someone who has a huge fear of heights.

spent the whole weekend from Thursday night to monday night awake. Visited my friend Karen and we stayed up the entire time just joking around and talking. plus during the day it was shopping and movies. I had lost my cell phone someone and when I left on Monday night she told me to take hers with me then mail it back to her when i got home.

Ky is a gorgous place and I look forward to going back next year.. this year... Vegas!! (in Oct)

The first half of 2009 has been much better than 2008 for me. Last year my ICD had fouled up and was shocking my heart just to see if I was awake and to remind me that it was watching.I can do without that.Sad

Well, 2009 didn't start out much better than 2008 ended, but things are getting better - I hope! Between moving family members, followed by a stroke, and then my benefator's passin g in early 2009, it has been one very hairy year. But my health seems to be improving (at least my energy level is increasing. That's a good sign, right?) and I am beginning to think more and more about doing some more painting (It has been over 10 years since my house fire destroyed all of my paintings and equipment) And I am looking forward to moving into a nicer apartment this fall! Smile)
